Default I'm getting a 1980 chevy truck it was my great grandfathers?

Its a classic and it has 4 gas tanks...this baby is going to suck down gas...and being a high school student I will not have a lot of money..Any ideas on how to save gas and maybe increase its mph.
I can't sell its important to the family and it's in awesome shape.
