Default my 98 Ford Explorer dies when I let off the gas.?

I went to start my truck.. it tries to turn over.. but wont. If I push on the gas it will start and stay running a long as I keep my foot on the gas. When I let off it idles down then dies. I recently changed the battery, and the alternator. I also put in a fuel injector cleaner last night. I dont recall when the fuel filter was last changed,, but it has been at least 3 years ago. Could this be my problem?
In reviewing paper work from previous repairs, I had a tune up back in 2005, along with other repairs due to a failed emissions inspection. I had my IAC valve replaced in 2002.
