Default Is a 2001 Hyundai GX300 with high mileage a reliable vehicle?

We need a new car, and fast - are considering paying $5500-$6000 for a 2001 Hyundai GX300 with somewhere around 99k miles. I'm a little wary of this purchase, as I don't know a lot about Hyundais. I know they're getting a lot more respect these days, but don't know that this is a wise purchase, especially as we plan to just put even more miles on any newer vehicle we purchase. I do know that Volvo, VW, Honda, and Toyota make reliable, hardworking vehicles that can punch out 200,000 miles or over, as long as they're taken care of and receive regular maintenance - I just don't know that Hyundai is in the same class.

Recently, Hyundai has been improving, but it is still a little cloudy for the year you're looking at. However, based solely on mileage, almost all modern vehicles are capable of running to 200k miles or more WHEN properly maintained. So, 99k is really not that much.

If this car has proof of maintenance, I would really look into this car. If not, I might stay away. Regardless, be sure to check the vehicles CARFAX (carfax.com) to ensure it has not been in an accident or flood- if it has been, do not buy it. Carfax is well worth the $15- I almost bought a car that was wrecked once but found out because of Carfax.

$6000 seems a little high for a vehicle with 100k miles on it. I would pay no more than $4500 for this particular vehicle. MAYBE up to $5200 if it has service records and looks perfect.
