Default How About Those Jaguar S-Type Vehicles?

I Love the way this car looks and can not afford to buy a new one. I think I would be looking for something approximately 2/3 years old. Are there any particular flaws in this make car? And why am I seeing so many use ones for sale. (Where I live) What do you think a good asking price for this car would be? thank You, LynWill

Well I can't say I have any personal experience but I have heard from many mechanics and car dealerships that Jaguars have serious problems with oil leakage and gaskets. Also, since Jaguar was bought out by Ford motor company the quality of the cars overall has gone down. This is because of cost cutting and more recently because of the financial troubles at Ford. Other than that I do not know much about the mechanical quality of Jaguars. Check edmunds.com for the particular model, it should be very helpful.

You know what they say about Jaguras. If you want one, you gotta buy two. One for your daily driver and one for spare parts.

Try to get a 2003 or newer. The newer ones have a lot better interior and usually have less problems. So stay with the 03 and newer s-types. I agree with Bracken46.

The S-Type 3.0 is a wonderful car, with a six-cylinder engine sourced from Ford. The 3.0 is a reliable machine; we see at least 50 at our shop and none of them have any major problems. They ride and sound like Jaguars should, with none of the grief the eight-cylinder 4.0 is capable of dealing.

Like all Jags, when one ignition coil fails, they all need to be replaced; a brake job includes pads and rotors every other time, and the park switch assembly in the shifter can become difficult to operate after a while. (Which can either be replaced or put up with, as it takes it a long time to fail completely.)

Otherwise, the 3.0 is an excellent car. We've only seen one unusual component fail, which was the drive-by-wire assembly (but only on one car out of all the ones we see). Every customer of ours who owns one is happy with it, and it's easier on the wallet than an XJ. I would definitely recommend one to you.

i own a repair shop,,and they are really nice cars,,i have several customers who own them,,and i haven't seen any major problems from them,,i think one reason your seeing them for sale is people have bought newer ones, and we all know trading in a used car is like shooting your self in the foot, you never get what the car is worth,,people are keeping their older ones and selling them strait out, rather than give them to a dealer,i have one at my shop right now for sale its a 2000 model, and i think it may be gone tomorrow,,they don't last long,,i have a lot of customers who don't want to be bothered with selling them ,and they have me do it for them,,this is probably why your seeing them around,a lot,,but in all honesty,,they are good cars,if they have been taken good care of,,there like any other car, they will tear up,and they will give trouble,if you buy a good used one have it checked out real good before you buy it,,good luck i hope this help,s.
