are Kias reliable vehicles? Does Dodge own Kia or visa versa?

Two cheaper vehicles that I,ve been watching lately are Dodge and Kia; I really like the Kia SUVs (the way they look anyway), one friend says you can buy a brand new Kia SUV for 16,000 with 5 yr warranty, another says Kias are junk. What do you say
