Default 2000 Lincoln LS- I have trouble starting my vehicle on the first and sometimes...

...second try.? When it does start, it smells of gas. I think it is an internal gas leak because I can smell it in the car. Is it hard for a mechanic to pinpoint this, and how do they go about it? Is it expensive to fix? Please help.
