down shifts by it's self.? It shifts down and then back in gear when traveling between 45 and 65 mph. on level roads. I believe it to be an electrical problem but I'm not sure.
Does it sound like the park/neutral safety switch or the transmission range sensor?
It seems to be shifting out of over- drive and back in. It will also go into neutral and the engine will rev. The mechanic that rebuilt the tranny said it's electrical and he can't help.
nitroyes, you sound very confident in your reply. I had no intention of trying to repair it myself, until reading your reply.
I'll call a dealer for a price on the part and try replacing it myself. Thank you.

the mlp sensor or trans range sensor is digital, i have replaced it for this problem, the original had water intrusion issues and the new revised is sealed better and will fix the problem, to replace you put the trans in nuetral, remove the old one slide on the new one and line up the marks, very easy to repair

sounds like its going in an out of OD this is normal all u have to do is push the gas peddle down a little ad it will down shift out of OD but if you feel its not right take it back most Lincoln/ fords had junk for trans any way good luck
