Default i have a 1998 Lincoln Navigator, that I think needs a new Heater Core....!?!?!?1?

Im not sure that that is the problem, The AC doesn't work as good as it should...the Heat works....when the truck is running there is a warm mist that comes out all of the vents it leaves a green film on the windows and gets all foggy, even if the vents are off and the fans are off it still comes out.... if i roll the windows down or turn the fan or ac/heat on it get increasingly worse.... I was recently given an estimate to get a new one with parts and labor and Service w/ TAX i was quoted $576.25. Is that reasonable.
I also would like to know if I need to fix it or will it do further damage to anything else if i don't. Someone told me that i could unplug it somehow is that true??? or what do i do??? Please let me no any info will help!!! Thanks!

Thank You....
But who are you to decide who can and can't afford things......
I appreciate the advice, but please don't JUDGE me! For you information i was saying that 570something sounded SUSPICIOUS...too CHEAP! But thanks anyways!

Bypassing the core is fine as long as you bypass, and not plug off the lines. That may impede circulation.

I have not done a Navigator core, but many others require the removal of the entitre dash to gain access to the heater core. Some even require the removal of the AC evaporator, and re-fitting with new drier/receiver etc.!

$576.25 does not sound out of line to me. You can try another shop though, but you get what you pay for!

You cannot unplug the heater core, but you can bypass it. I fail to see how someone who owns a Navigator cannot afford a 576. Dollar repair.. That's AMAZING to me. Why buy something you really can't afford???! In all honesty, you should fix the problem, because yes, it will do further damage. You can temporarily bypass the heater core by using an in line connection the same size as the heater hose and routing both heater lines into the connection instead of the core. This would remove all coolant flow from the core, but may put additional strain on the vehicles cooling system. It's only a temporary fix.
