I recently bought a new Mazda RX8 and I would highly reccomend the car to anyone. It is very stylish and unique, and I enjoy driving it a lot...but...there are things that I wish I had known about it before I chose that car.

first, the gas milage isnt the greatest, I drive the manual and get about 15 mpg...and it requires anything with an Octane higher then 91, so I dont know about current gas prices in your area, but theyre not fantastic where im at.

the RX8 also burns oil, so you must keep spare oil with you, because you are "supposed" to check it every other fill up, mine requires more oil at about every 2000 miles, but if you dont keep up on it, it can be disasterous for your engine.

but on the plus side, i love my car to death, the handling is amazing, it runs very smoothly, gets some pretty good speed, is very stylish =] and you have to get used to the rotary engine, it requires a bit more routine maintence then a normal engine.

I drove an rx8 before and it was awesome. Things to keep in mind though is that it is a rotary engine which may not be as reliable as a conventional piston engine and you have to take it to an experienced mechanic. Since the engines are so rare most shops will not know how to work on them. With the old rotary engines you had to replace the seals every 100k, although the new ones may be better. Also, it is RWD so you will have to be careful in the winter if you get snow where you live. Another Mazda alternative that you may be able to get for about the same price is the Mazdaspeed 6. I think this car is even a little faster and it is AWD with a conventional engine. I think they came out in 05 or 06. I just bought a Mazdaspeed 3 and I love it.
