Mods for fuel economy
So, tell me if I'm right.
If your car performs more efficiently, it would not only last longer, but make more of your fuel, correct? Efficiency equals economy...
So, say your car is stock, no mods. It performs at a certain level, which we will call 85% for the discussions sake. Adding something like a cold air intake will help your car perform better, yielding more power, and bringing your car to, say, 90% or its maximum operating level.
Now, if a cold air intake helps your car work more efficiently, would it not increase fuel economy? Or, because your car now has more power, would you burn through gas quicker than normal?
I'm asking this because I don't fully understand the benefits of a cold air intake, among other auto mods, and I wish to comprehend the pros and cons of such mods. My overall quest is to mod my car in such a way as to maximize fuel economy while minimizing power loss, but hopefully adding power along the way.
Right now my car is a 1997 Nissan Frontier, 4 cylinder 4x4. I am looking to upgrade to a Jeep Wrangler or Scrambler, hopefully 4 cyl, but I'm not opposed to a 6 cyl. I want to make the most out of fuel in these trying times, but I don't want to sacrifice power to do so. In fact, if I could increase power and economy simultaneously I would be one happy camper!!
This could be the beginning of an epic thread that would answer a ton of questions for many people on the forum aside from myself, so don't hesitate to put in your 2 cents guys. I need the help, you need the help, so lets get this thing crackin'!!
