Default anyone have a link to related court cases or information about auto insurance fraud

in California? My bf rolled his truck about 1 yr ago. he had full coverage auto insur. & he was the only 1 involved. when he went home under the poor advice of "friends" he reported his truck stolen after being jumped (this was fabricated). 4 days later he had guilt & confessed to the police and insur. company he was speeding lost control & rolled his truck 3-4 x's. Both the ins. company and police dept. stopped their fraud investigation Case Closed & he was paid out for his truck because of the full coverage he had. This is all documented in recorded phone calls & written statements from the ins. company. Same with the police dept. The D.A. is really trying to press Insurance Fraud Charges and has offered 9mo in prison or 180 days work release program with felony chargs drppd to misdm in 11/2 yrs. The pub def. thinks he may have a good chance at fighting this since there was no $$ loss but going to trial could go either way & if he loses it cld b a min. 2yr in prison. Any info would be very helpful.
